Car & Van Rental in Dundee?

Dundee, the fourth largest city in Scotland and a vibrant, bustling centre of sport, science and culture, sits on the northern bank of the Firth of Tay, bordering the North Sea. The city can trace its origins back to medieval times but underwent rapid expansion in the 19th century, due mostly to the jute industry.

Today, Dundee is well recognised for its scientific and cultural heritage. It is a UNESCO City of Design for its diverse contributions to digital entertainment, illustration, medical research and other fields. The city is also home to two professional football clubs, Dundee United and Dundee F.C., and no fewer than five rugby union teams. A thriving calendar of cultural events and festivals ensures that it’s always a great time to visit.

Enterprise branch in Dundee is centrally located just off the A991, conveniently close to Dundee bus station and many hotels and attractions. For the ultimate freedom to explore this stunning city, car hire in Dundee can be booked online or customers can visit the branch directly.

Our Vehicles for Hire in Dundee

Enterprise is happy to offer advice when it comes to the best vehicle for your trip. Many customers are looking for a small economy car that is suited to city driving, while Dundee’s enviable location on the beautiful east coast of Scotland means that it is also the stepping-stone to exploring the region’s countryside. We can provide medium-sized cars, compact MPVs and full-sized MPVs and 4x4s, including Toyota, Volvo and Range Rover models, for discovering the rugged hills and rolling, agricultural countryside of the region. For business and premium travellers, executive vehicles, such as Mercedes C-Class, E-Class and S350, may be the more worthwhile options.

Attractions in Dundee

Dundee is presently undergoing a £1-billion plan to regenerate its historic waterfront. This ambitious project began in 2001 and has already seen substantial improvements in reconnecting the city with the river and offering unique attractions to visitors. The Dundee Science Centre was one of the first attractions to open, while later years have seen the development of new open spaces, the Olympia Swimming and Leisure Centre, Malmaison Hotel and Slessor Gardens with its Discovery Walk.

The city has a wealth of other attractions, such as the 15th-century Broughty Castle Museum, with its superb exhibits on Broughty Ferry and local life, and the amazing Orchar collection of Scottish Victorian art. It also boasts magnificent views across the water from its impressive vantage point on the mouth of the River Tay. Lovers of Scottish history may also want to visit Claypotts Castle, a 16th-century tower house in the suburban West Ferry district of the city, and Dudhope Castle, located on the Law in the city centre. The Law itself is an extinct volcano and an impressive city landmark in its own right.

Other attractions include Discovery Point, home of the RRS Discovery, Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s famous polar exploration ship, launched in Dundee in 1901 and the last traditional wooden three-masted ship to be built in the country. Today, visitors can follow in Scott’s footsteps as the Discovery Centre journeys into the heart of Antarctica, through a series of audio-visual shows and interactive exhibits.

Places to Visit Outside Dundee

A car makes the discovery of the wider region beyond the city easy. Fife, with its historic towns, villages and attractions, such as Falkland Palace and St Andrews Cathedral, is just a short drive to the south. Here the visitor can explore quaint fishing villages, peaceful country roads and scenic coastal countryside. Around Dundee city, attractions accessible with a Dundee hire car include the ruined 13th-century monastery of Balmerino Abbey, the picturesque 19th-century Barry Mill, Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie’s Birthplace museum, beautiful Branklyn Garden, and historic houses, such as the Georgian House of Dun. All these are within easy reach, either to the west or north of the city.

You can also head up towards the magnificent Cairngorms. Along the A9, the visitor will pass beautiful countryside and places to discover, such as the historic town of Dunkeld, the 18th-century woodland landscape of the Hermitage, Linn of Tummel woodland countryside and the Explorers Garden at Pitlochry, a charming garden that tells the wonderful story of Scotland’s plant hunters who travelled the world in search of new and exotic plants.
